Poetry Readings
My collection of poetry – FREEDOM RECLAIMED – was published on http://www.augustabooks.co.uk last autumn. I went over to Charleston, South Carolina in November, and on three occasions – either at casual meetings in people’s homes or on more formal events such as the Gullah Festival at the Penn Center on St Helena Island – I recited some of my poems and sold copies – mainly of the book.
Next month I’m due to recite some of the poems in the collection at a Poetry Cafe – “Poems and Pints” – held once a month at a local arts centre in New Milton, close to Christchurch. I hope to sell some copies of the book and perhaps the CD.
During my next visit to Charleston in September, I shall be one of the main speakers at another Poetry Cafe held on the 19th in downtown – Monday Night Blues at 160 East Bay Street. If you are thinking of attending, you can register on the Monday Night Blues facebook page. Again I hope to sell copies of my book and CD at the event. It is ironic that through http://www.createspace.com,which is affiliated to amazon.com, the copies are printed down the road in North Charleston.
I welcome invitations to come and give a recitation of some of the poems. The books and CDs will be offered for sale as well.
Here is one of my unpublished poems:
MY DREAM
If I could rise from the ground on angel-wings,
And like the mighty eagle, soar high
Among the wispy clouds,
I’d whistle into the gale,
Laugh at the growling thunder,
And out of the driving storm
Believe I’d see beyond the rainbow’s edge
Into the panorama of crystal, blue sky,
And move through the breathless
Heat of the sun.
I enjoy your blog very much. Thank you.
Would you consider purchasing a copy of the book? Or do you know of any of your friends or colleagues who might be interested?
